Our classic RAF watch returns – with a new 38mm Light-catcher™ case, redesigned, aviator-focused dial and an even higher level of finishing. Named after the RAF’s training college – and officially approved by the Ministry of Defence – the C65 Cranwell delivers ultra-accurate timekeeping thanks to its Swiss chronometer movement. And while it may be inspired by one of the all-time great pilot’s watches, its focus on clarity and reliability is distinctly 21st century.
A field watch made for the skies
A field watch made for the skies
Aviation has always gone hand in hand with watchmaking.
And with our reinvented, next-generation C65 Cranwell, you can see it in the metal – from every angle.
Modelled on the classic Jaeger-LeCoultre/IWC Mark XI 6B/346, an aviator watch aimed at bomber-navigators, the new Cranwell is a tribute to the pilots of the past that also happens to be a modern precision timing instrument.
The dial, which now hosts our twin-flags logo, has been completely redesigned for clarity and authenticity. Its Arabic numerals are printed in Super-LumiNova® lume for visibility after dark, while the Super-LumiNova® Old Radium-coated quarter-hour batons and inverted triangle add warmth as well as legibility.
The Light-catcher™ case has been reduced to 38mm: its brushed and polished facets are emphasised by contouring lines that run from its central ‘waist’ section down to its inclining lugs. Not only does it look fantastic, but it also feels comfortable when worn.
As befitting a field watch, power comes courtesy of a COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1, which is in the top six per cent of Swiss-made movements for accuracy. As with the regular SW200-1, this chronometer version has a ‘hacking seconds’ function: a throwback to the time when being able to ‘synchronise watches’ was vital in operations.
The final ‘wow’ moment comes when you turn the watch over. Here, you’ll be greeted by the heraldic badge of the RAF deep-stamped into the backplate. And should you be forced to bail out at sea, water resistance to 150m means your watch will keep ticking while you wait for assistance.
